While we kept walking and the men drifted into the peripheral world behind us we all of a sudden heard a loud SCREECH and hallow but loud THUMP. A man driving much to fast had hit the stumbling homeless man in the last few feet of the street. We stood across the way with hands over our mouths in utter shock. We had just witnessed, not only an accident, but someone get seriously hurt.
After a moment thought my friend told me to stay put as he went to go help the frantic driver attempt to put the man in his car. I stood across the way still deeply shocked and watched the homeless mans limp body being hoisted into the back seat of the small red Honda. His arm was dangling in the most awful and broken way.
The front wind shield of the tiny plastic car had been completely smashed and was half in the car. The driver was quite upset and obviously didn't know english all too well as he was shouting directions in Spanish to my friend. He attempted to give him something that resembled directions to the nearest hospital.
The driver sped off while my friend ran back to where I stood. We began to walk again in disbelief at what we had just seen.
