The theory of a 5 year old.

At work, I needed to buy spray paint for a piece of furniture I was refinishing. As I held the can in line at The Home Depot, I looked down at the can. I shook it for a moment, listening to the metal ball ting and hit the sides of the metal can. I stopped and stared at the can. It made me remember a childhood memory.
While watching a show, on Nickelodeon, on mural painters using spray paint I remember the adults on the show pointing out the respirators the artists were wearing while painting. Making sure to mention that spray paint may cause brain damage if inhaled for long periods of time and to be sure and stay in a well ventilated area. At this statement, my 5 year old (or so) mind thinks, and wonders about a fact I had struggled with understanding.
I asked my mother a question. "Mommy? Is that what happend to Grandma?"
My mother answered quietly, "No sweetheart, I don't think that is what happend to Grandma. What is happening to grandma is a bit different."
Three years later I said goodbye to my grandmother in a hospital in Sherman Oaks California, as the Alzheimer disease that had taken her mind, finished its job and took the rest of her.
